Plot separation to create new, self-build detached house.

We bought a tired bungalow with possible development potential that had a wonderful open view to the river and meadow. The design created by the first architectural practice we engaged did not answer our requirements. It fell short of our feelings of what our house should be, and when it became clear during the application period that the design was also going to get a planning refusal, we had little option but to withdraw the application and start again with another consultant architect. We took our time researching local Dorset architects and discovered two recent local projects by Studio MODA that we really liked. We found their approach refreshing, engaging and totally understanding of our aspirations. The resultant wonderful design exceeds our expectations - magnificent naturally lit spaces internally and a beautifully crafted arts and crafts approach externally. The design gives us all we need and more and it sailed through planning without any issues whatsoever. We cannot wait to see it completed.

Plot separation for proposed new dwelling.

We have been in our house, a steeply sloping corner plot, for several decades and friends over time had often commented that the run-down triple garages at the top of the garden may potentially be redeveloped into a new separate dwelling and sold off. We engaged a local architect to explore the possibilities for demolishing the garages to make way for a house, but the numerous formal pre-application responses were totally unsupported by the planning department. At a loss for what to do, a developer client of mine suggested Studio MODA Architects since they had secured several planning permissions for him on difficult, challenging sites through their creative and imaginative design approach. From our first meeting onwards we were confident we had the right architect who showed a great understanding of planning and contextual design and produced a most amazing contemporary design solution that convinced the planning inspector and so won at appeal. The design is so original with wonderful natural light and a secret sunken courtyard garden, that it was very tempting to move in ourselves!!
